چکیده

Spoken Dialogue Systems (SDS ́s) is a technology that provides users with a speech based interaction with machines to carry out several activities in the pursuit of their goals (information retrieval, business transactions, automatic translation, etc.). Development of this kind of systems needs an evaluation process to show the real system performance, to identify implementation errors, etc. The resources to carry out this process are few, and for most of them their functional capabilities are constrained and not so general. This paper presents an approach for measure the Task Complexity on SDS. The description of the approach is carried out to show that this is one of main factors that should be considered in order to develop a consistent and general enough evaluation framework for SDS ́s. Key-Words: Spoken Dialogue Systems, Evaluation Framework, Task Complexity.

The Effects of Task Variation on the Accuracy and Complexity of Iranian EFL Learners’ Oral Performance

Task variation is an integrative method aiming at the importance of learner-to-learner interactions in a wide range of learning contexts and fostering authentic use of language and meaningful communication. This study investigated the impact of task variation on the accuracy and complexity of Iranian EFL learners’ oral speech. In so doing, 80 intermediate EFL learners, majoring English at the I...

Designing a Task-Based Evaluation Methodology for a Spoken Machine Translation System

In this paper, I discuss issues pertinent to the design of a task-based evaluation methodology for a spoken machine translation (MT) system processing human to human communication rather than human to machine communication. I claim that system mediated human to human communication requires new evaluation criteria and metrics based on goal complexity and the speaker's prioritization of goals. 1 ...

New challenges in usability evaluation - beyond task-oriented spoken dialogue systems

There is a fairly good baseline for usability evaluation of taskoriented unimodal spoken dialogue systems (SDSs) but much is still unknown regarding the usability of multimodal and non-task-oriented SDSs. This paper reviews and discusses approaches to usability evaluation of these kinds of SDSs.

PARADISE: A Framework for Evaluating Spoken Dialogue Agents

This paper presents PARADISE (PARAdigm for Dialogue System Evaluation), a general framework for evaluating spoken dialogue agents. The framework decouples task requirements from an agent's dialogue behaviors, supports comparisons among dialogue strategies, enables the calculation of performance over subdialogues and whole dialogues, specifies the relative contribution of various factors to perf...

From single word to natural dialogue

Spoken language dialogue systems represent the peak of achievement in speech technologies in the 20 th century and appear set to form the basis for the increasingly natural interactive systems to follow in the coming decades. This chapter first presents a model of the task-oriented spoken dialogue system, its multiple aspects and some of the remaining research challenges. In the context of this...
